چکیده

n the first case of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), reported by Dr Gruntzig in 1978, the transfemoral approach was used. Since then, many interventional cardiologists have performed PCI using that approach. However, in the history of cardiac catheterization, the first case was performed by a urologist Dr Forssmann, from his own brachial vein to the right side of his heart in 1929, for which he received a Nobel Prize because he opened the gate to cardiac catheterization. Dr Sones started coronary diagnostic catheterization via the brachial artery in 1960, so catheterization from the upper limb is quite an old idea. Following Dr Sones, Dr Judkins started transfemoral coronary diagnostic catheterization using a catheter that he had designed for easy engagement in the coronary artery, and the transfemoral approach using the “Judkins technique” became the standard technique.

No-Reflow Phenomenon in Patients with ST-Elevation Acute Myocardial Infarction, Treated with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: A Study of Predictive Factors

Introduction: No-reflow phenomenon in coronary vessels, manifested in some patients with reperfused acute myocardial infarction (MI), is associated with poor clinical and functional outcomes. Therefore, evaluation of predisposing risk factors can be helpful in risk assessment and identification of patients at higher risk. Herein, we aimed to study the predictive factors for the development of...

Comparative study on transradial versus transfemoral approach for primary percutaneous coronary intervention in Chinese patients with acute myocardial infarction.

OBJECTIVE To compare the transradial approach and transfemoral approach for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Chinese patients with acute myocardium infarction (AMI). METHODS From August 2005 to September 2008, we randomly divided 200 AMI patients into transradial intervention (TRI) group and transfemoral intervention (TFI) group. The study took place in the Department of Ca...

Comparison of the Success Rate of Treatment with Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention PCI versus Thrombolytic Treatment in Patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Local Hospitals in Iran

Background and Objective: Acute myocardial infarction (MI) is caused due to coronary artery occlusion and divided into two forms of ST-elevation (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation (NSTEMI) myocardial infarction. This study aimed to determine the success rate of treatment with primary PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) versus thrombolysis in the establishment of perfusion and to evaluate the sho...

RADIal versus femoral approach for percutaneous coronary interventions in patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction (RADIAMI): A prospective, randomized, single-center clinical trial.

BACKGROUND The transradial approach for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) seems to be superior to transfemoral. The safety and efficacy of transradial approach for PCI in acute myocardial infarction is not well-established. METHODS Hundred patients with acute myocardial infarction qualified to PCI were randomly assigned to transradial (group I; n = 50) and transfemoral (group II; n = 5...

Evaluation of ejection fraction in patients with acute myocardial infarction undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

Introduction: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a reperfusion strategy to increase life expectancy and ejection fraction (EF) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. We investigated the effect of location, severity, type of lesion, number and type of vessel involved and time of angioplasty on the increase in EF in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI (P-PCI) a...

Primary percutaneous coronary intervention for ST elevation myocardial infarction in nonagenarians

OBJECTIVE To assess outcomes following primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI) in nonagenarian patients. METHODS We conducted a multicentre retrospective study between 2006 and 2013 in five international high-volume centres and included consecutive all-comer nonagenarians treated with primary PCI for STEMI. There were no ex...
